The Globe Group Scaffolding at Sidgwick Site

Nov 21, 2018 | Roofing, Scaffolding

Scaffolding and roofing are essential elements in the construction and refurbishment industry. They are critical in ensuring safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in the execution of projects. In this blog post, we will explore the scope of works carried out by The Globe Group, a reputable provider of scaffolding and roofing solutions, at the Sidgewick Site.

The scope of works for this project involved providing access to refurbish the building with temporary roof covering. The project required a temporary roof to protect the building and equipment during the refurbishment. The Globe Group was tasked with providing scaffolding and roofing solutions to support the project.

The scaffolding used was an independent general-purpose scaffolding with a safe working load of 2.0kN/m2. The scaffold was arranged in 4 + 2 boards wide and erected in approximately 2m high lifts. All lifts were fully boarded with double handrails, toe boards, and integral ladder access. The scaffold was designed to accommodate the temporary roof.

The external scaffold erected to the perimeter of the building was 85m long x 11m wide on plan. It was erected in 7no lifts up to the roof level, all fully boarded working lifts for full access. The scaffold provided a safe working platform for the workers to access the building and carry out the refurbishment.

The temporary roof was a full roof over the entire building, covering an area of 935m². The roof was formed of a pitched roof by adding an additional 2m high lift on the scaffold and using Aluminum beams to span over the roof and the scaffold to create the roof. The roof was covered in shrink wrap plastic sheeting to create a weatherproof enclosure that allows light to penetrate. The sheeting continued down to the boarded platform at the roof level. The tower section of the roof was stepped up to go over the top of this section rather than making the whole roof the same height, creating a sliding moveable roof.

To access the roof level and support the 500kg goods hoist, a hoist tower was erected. Additionally, a HAKI staircase was provided to access all lifts on one elevation. The scaffolding and roofing solutions provided by The Globe Group were designed to ensure safety, efficiency, and effectiveness in the execution of the project.

The scaffold remained in place for 40 weeks, allowing the workers to carry out the refurbishment project safely and efficiently. The Globe Group provided high-quality scaffolding and roofing solutions that met the client’s requirements and ensured the successful completion of the project.

In conclusion, scaffolding and roofing are critical elements in the construction and refurbishment industry. The Globe Group has demonstrated its expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality scaffolding and roofing solutions in the recent project. The scaffolding and roofing solutions provided by The Globe Group ensured the safety, efficiency, and effectiveness of the project, allowing the workers to carry out the refurbishment project safely and efficiently. The Globe Group is a reputable provider of scaffolding and roofing solutions that you can trust for your next project.
