Behind the Build: Groundworks for a Bespoke Home with Globe Civil Engineering

Jan 21, 2026 | Civil Engineering, Case Study

Groundworks are one of the most critical early stages of any construction project, setting the stage for everything that follows. Recently, Globe Civil Engineering completed a groundworks package for a custom-built, insulated concrete frame home — overcoming restricted site access and a specialist foundation design to deliver the project on time, on budget, and ready for the next phase of construction.

Project Snapshot

Globe Civil Engineering was appointed to manage the full groundworks scope for a private residential project involving a unique insulated concrete frame design. The client brief required a complete package from excavation through to the finished concrete floor slab, plus preparatory external works to allow the superstructure to begin without delay.

Key Challenges and Solutions

The project presented several logistical and technical challenges:

  • Restricted site access: With limited space for machinery movement, careful sequencing of deliveries and spoil removal was essential.
  • Specialist foundation design: Because of the insulated concrete frame, Globe’s team installed a deep hardcore pad, underfloor insulation boards and reinforcement before pouring the concrete slab.
  • Work sequencing: Rear drainage was installed ahead of foundations to maximise efficiency and maintain safety standards throughout.

Throughout the project, detailed planning, rigorous risk assessments (RAMS) and close coordination with building control and the warranty provider ensured compliance and continuity.

Health & Safety First

All operations were carried out in line with project RAMS documentation, with well-trained teams and appropriate PPE used at all times. Given the residential location, work was restricted to permitted hours, and deliveries were timed to minimise disruption to neighbours.

Positive Results and Progression

The groundworks were completed within the agreed timeframe and budget, enabling the client’s superstructure contractor to start immediately. Client satisfaction was further demonstrated by continued engagement with The Globe Group — with Globe Scaffolding subsequently appointed for the next phase of access works.

What This Means for Clients

This case highlights Globe Civil Engineering’s ability to:

  • Deliver tailored groundworks solutions in challenging and restricted environments
  • Coordinate complex sequencing to keep projects on schedule
  • Maintain rigorous health, safety and planning standards
  • Support broader project continuity through integrated Group collaboration
